Applications of Energy Storage Systems
Self-consumption optimization
In the case of zero-feed-in solar systems, when electricity cannot be fed back into the grid, the surplus energy generated but not consumed is stored in the energy storage units. This stored electricity can then be used when needed, effectively minimizing losses.
Market arbitrage
If a company has an exchange-indexed electricity contract, the energy storage system can be charged when daily electricity prices are low (valley) and discharged when prices are high (peak).
This allows the electricity procurement cost to be kept below the baseload price. In this case, having an existing solar power plant is not necessarily required. Market prices and fluctuations can be monitored at: hupx.hu
Peak Shaving consumption curve optimization
Industrial users typically define a contracted power capacity in their electricity agreements.
Exceeding this contracted capacity results in additional costs for the user. With an energy storage system, the extra energy demand during peak periods can be covered, preventing the contracted capacity from being exceeded.
aFRR control system
Industrial users are required to connect their solar and energy storage systems to the aFRR balancing market control system.
In this setup, with the help of aggregators, they can participate in system-level balancing services, for which MAVIR compensates industrial users.
